Aboriginal Supported Child Development: Outreach Worker

 

Under the direction of the Wellness Team Manager of the Denisiqi Services Society, and subject to its policies and regulations, the position is responsible to provide mental health and social support services to clients aged 7 – 18 who may or may not be diagnosed with special needs.  The worker will provide individual, family, and group support to both urban and rural based Tsilhqot’in and Ulkatcho member families, often in a school-based setting. This position requires high levels of intra-agency collaboration with other departments and agencies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

·        Diploma in Early Childhood Education (“ECE”); and / or Bachelors degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Work, Education or similar;

·        Certified in (or willingness to certify) “Friends For Life” mental health promotion curriculum, as well as similar programs that teach pro-social skills;

·        Must be willing to work flexible hours with regular travel including overnight stays in remote communities.    

·        Knowledge of Tsilhqot’in and Ulkatcho governance, culture and traditions or a minimum of two years working with First Nations people’s would be considered an asset

Rate of Pay is dependent on qualifications and experience.
